Until today, it is estimated that there are indigenous tribes in Peru, 51 from the Amazon and 4 from the Andes.
The experts highlight this area as a home to a representative part of the known global biodiversity, which includes 22% of vascular plant species, 14% of birds, 9% of mammals, 8% of amphibians, and 18% of the fish that inhabit the tropics.
Indigenous and tribal communities are the ones that best safeguard the forests and have the best knowledge of how to protect nature. The conservation of indigenous territories is fundamental for the stability of the global and regional climate, as well as for preserving a good part of the global biological and cultural diversity.
They are facing the destruction of their territories due to the growing demand for food, minerals, energy, wood, tourism, and other products and services. Man has overexploited the resources of nature, deforested land for agriculture and the livestock industry, while climate change now exacerbates this process faster than ever, increasing erosion and desertification.
In addition to this, indigenous people are also in the fight against poverty, hunger, and malnutrition.
They have a huge burden on their shoulders and besides that, they keep protecting the jungle and every species that lives there. Without any doubt, their culture keeps embracing their traditions and continues to teach us to respect the rivers, lakes, plants, animals, and spiritual creatures that live in the world.
As a brand, we are inspired by all indigenous values and the way they continue to embrace and protect nature in these modern times.
This holiday season we want to continue to support these values and share the union of family and nature as the indigenous tribes do. From TREEM together with the charity “One Tree Planted” we will plant an additional tree in the Andes for every purchase (two in total, as we already today plant a tree per every purchase). This small gesture we will make in favour of those families who struggle every day to have a home, so that they can have a better future.
Together we can do it, we invite you to spread this message of Empowerment and Strength to the younger generation and to those closest to you.
